The basic principles of restorative justice are:
- Crime is fundamentally a violation of people and interpersonal relationships
- Violations create obligations and liabilities
- These obligations and liabilities need to be fulfilled in order to allow people to heal and to make things right (Little Book of Restorative Justice, Zehr, H; 2002)
CCJ offers a Community Mediation Program, Community Service Restitution Program, Guided Family Intervention Project, Family Mediation Program, Victim Impact Panel and Victim Offender Reconcilation Program.
CCJ receives cases from the local courts as offender sanctions, but also non-court ordered community referrals.
